Cancellation of Alice Guo Birth Certificate Puts Citizenship in Limbo
ALICE GUO – Controversial Bamban Mayor Alice Guo’s birth certificate may be canceled, putting her citizenship status in limbo.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) has recommended the cancellation of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo’s birth certificate, casting doubt on her claimed Filipino citizenship.
According to PSA Assistant National Statistician Marizza Grande, Guo’s birth was registered late on November 22, 2005, when she was already a teenager. This was revealed during a Senate investigation into Guo’s alleged involvement in illegal POGO activities.
During questioning by Senator Risa Hontiveros, Grande stated that the delayed registration was “irregular” due to false information about Guo’s birthplace and citizenship.
“We had already endorsed to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) for the cancellation of (Guo’s) COLB. The PSA has no power to automatically cancel if there was an irregular process in the registration,” Grande added.
Grande explained that if Guo’s birth certificate is canceled, her identity will be in limbo, as her Filipino citizenship is under scrutiny.
Senator Hontiveros called the delayed registration “fraudulent” due to the lack of supporting documents, adding that this has serious implications for the person involved.
Grande also mentioned that they have requested the OSG to cancel the birth certificates of Guo’s siblings Sheila, Seimen, and Wesley.
Alice Guo was absent from the Senate panel on women’s hearing regarding Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators on Wednesday. The official guest list confirmed that the embattled mayor would not attend the investigation.
In a text message to INQUIRER.net, Guo’s lawyer, Atty. Stephen David, explained her absence, saying, “She is not feeling okay. She is sick and stressed.”
Alice Guo has been under scrutiny after the Senate committee on women revealed her alleged connections to Zun Yuan Technology Inc., an illegal POGO operation in Bamban. However, Guo has consistently denied all accusations, including claims that she is a Chinese spy.
