Students Suspected of Taking Laptops, Tablets, & Some Grocery Items from Cebu School
DALAGUETE SCHOOL – Four (4) minors allegedly broke into the principal’s office of the Cawayan Elementary School in Dalaguete town in Cebu and stole tablets, laptops, and some grocery items.
Stealing among students is a concerning issue that can have various underlying causes and consequences. It’s a complex topic influenced by social, economic, and psychological factors.
Addressing stealing among students requires a multifaceted approach involving education, intervention, and support. Schools can implement preventive measures such as promoting a positive school culture, teaching moral values, and providing opportunities for students to develop positive peer relationships. Additionally, counseling services should be readily available for students who may be struggling with underlying issues contributing to their behavior.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, four students are said to have unlawfully entered the principal’s office at Cawayan Elementary School in Dalaguete, Cebu. They allegedly took laptops, tablets, and a few grocery items.
On Tuesday morning, the school principal informed authorities that items had been stolen from his office. The school caretaker observed that the front door of the office had been “forcibly opened,” according to PMaj. Kenneth Albotra, who is in charge of the Dalaguete police.
Officials also noted that the wooden supports of the restroom next to the principal’s office had been removed. Upon examination, it was determined that 13 tablets bearing the Department of Education emblem were absent, along with 3 blue laptops, 3 blue tablets, and various groceries.
The items, valued at P143,000, were later discovered abandoned in a shrubbery area. Authorities, with the assistance of a barangay official, retrieved them several hours later.
The alleged perpetrators, believed to be students at the school, were successfully located. They are all male, aged between 15 and 17.
According to the report, the Barangay Protection Security Officers positively identified the students, claiming to have seen them in the vicinity of the school that morning.
Due to their status as minors, the students will not face formal criminal charges but will be treated as children in conflict with the law for robbery. They will be placed in a homecare facility.
Albotra stated that the Department of Social Welfare and Development provided a certificate confirming that the minors are capable of discerning between right and wrong.
