Sarah Lahbati talked about her comeback TV series
Actress Sarah Lahbati shared what seasoned actress Jackie Lou Blanco advised her for her role in the series Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa.
Sarah took a break from acting for many years. This year, she is coming back, and her new series on TV5 has opened more doors for her. Based on the article in The Philippine Star, after this project, she is set to do a movie and a series for an international streaming platform.
In a recent interview, Sarah shared that she did not watch the original movie in which the Lumuhod Ka Sa Lupa was based. The movie was released in 1986 and featured Rudy Fernandez. Sarah’s character was originally played by Jackie Lou Blanco.
Sarah Lahbati shared that the timing of this project was so right for her. “The timing of it landing on my lap (around October last year) felt incredibly right. It happened during a time where I felt like I had to make a comeback and pursue my goals,” she said.
Aside from the right timing, the material was a big factor. After reading the synopsis, Sarah immediately said “yes” to the offer.
“It felt to me that I’m going back to acting and I’m gonna be portraying a role of a woman with substance and not just going back to acting, whatsoever,” the actress shared.
Sarah said that her character Mercy Balmores is a “charitable, smart, independent woman who has a big heart.” She fell in love with her character immediately. The actress also pointed out the colorful life of her character who is a woman of substance but has a complex relationship with her father, and then met Norman de la Cruz, and fell in love with him.
Sarah also said that she resonates with the character’s compassionate and empathetic traits. The actress admitted that she did not watch the original movie.
She received a message from Jackie Lou. They worked together in TV5’s More Than Words series 10 years ago. “And I asked her, ‘Tita Jackie, do you think I should watch it?’ She’s like, ‘No, absolutely not. Do not watch it. Do your own thing.’ It made my heart (swell) that she told me that and of course, I was giddy about it,” Sarah shared what the seasoned actress advised her.
Sarah Lahbati said that she did not watch the movie not just because Jackie Lou Blanco told her so but also because she wanted to feel fresh and different when she played the character. Previously, the actress shared that she does not believe in revenge because for her, karma never fails.
