Sarah Geronimo shared her aspiration for the Philippines
Popstar Royalty Sarah Geronimo urged her fellow Filipinos to support Original Pilipino Music (OPM).
Sarah is one of the most successful artists of her generation. Her music resonated to all ages and her success journey became an inspiration to many younger artists. Her most recent success was when she received the Global Force Award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony in Los Angeles, California.
Billboard Philippines Women in Music also named her the Woman of the Year during the awarding ceremony on March 22.
In her acceptance speech, she encouraged Filipinos to support OPM amid the nature of comparison, based on the article in Inquirer.
“Kung meron man akong pangarap para sa ating industriya at bansa, ito ay malakas na suporta, paniniwala at respeto sa kakayahan ng bawat isa. Alam kong nasa nature nating mag-kompara. Ako rin ay guilty diyan,” Sarah Geronimo said.
The singer-actress shared that she realized this when she attended the Billboard Women in Music Awards in LA. She saw the diversity in music and talent
She also shared that she noticed there that artists were more focused on what they could bring to the table instead of their individual talent because everyone was good at what they did.
Sarah reminded her fellow female artists not to be affected by negativity. “When you take a rest, hindi ka na kilala. Laos ka na. But through time, I realized that it’s okay to defy them. We all have a voice and we all have a choice. We don’t have to pressure ourselves to fit the mold,” she stressed.
The Popstar Royalty also stressed that women in music should not “cave in peer pressure.” She encouraged her fellow artists to speak their truth and what is in their hearts. “Don’t be afraid to carve your own path; as long as you walk in love and peace in God, you’re on the right track,” Sarah Geronimo said.
In her red-carpet interview in LA, Sarah highlighted the value of her mother Mommy Divine in her life. Just recently, the singer-actress confirmed that she and her mother reconciled.
