Pura Luka Vega Released From Detention After Posting P360,000 Bail

Pura Luka Vega Freed From Detention Upon Paying Bail Of P360,000

PURA LUKA VEGA – Drag artist Pura Luka Vega was released from detention after paying bail of PHP360,000.

The Manila Police District (MPD) once again arrested drag artist Pura Luka Vega, whose real name is Amadeus Fernando Pagente. The complaints against the drag artist stemmed from his controversial “Ama Namin” or “The Lord’s Prayer” performance, where he wore a costume resembling the Black Nazarene, at a bar on July 10, 2023.

The arrest of Pura was announced by Drag Den creator Rod Singh on his Twitter account this Thursday, February 29, 2024. According to Singh, the drag artist needs PHP360,000 for bail.

In relation to this, they once again had a fundraising event to gather funds for Pura Luka Vega’s bail and other legal expenses. Pura was first arrested at his residence in Sta. Cruz, Manila, on October 4, 2023.

This came after he failed to appear at the preliminary investigations of the criminal complaint filed against him by devotees of the Black Nazarene or Hijos del Nazareno Central.

Pura was able to post bail immediately. On Friday night, March 1, 2024, Pura announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he is now free after his camp paid the PHP360,000 bail.

He said, “I was released on bail today. Honestly, I got to learn more about my cellmates and their stories and much more.

“Because of what is happening and through the support and explanations of my lawyers, I now feel comfortable using legal jargon in everyday life.”

Pura also expressed his gratitude to those who helped him regain his freedom quickly. “Tuloy pa rin ang laban, tuloy pa rin ang buhay. Lubos ang pasasalamat ko sa mga tumulong saken sa bail ko.”

“To my drag sisters na walang sawang tumulong saken at nag-organize ng fund raising for legal fees, maraming maraming salamat sa inyo,” he added.
