Jang Geum Will Return, Lee Young-ae To Reprise Role In ‘Jewel in the Palace’

Lee Young-ae will play Jang Geum once again

Korean actress Lee Young-ae will reprise her role as Jang Geum in the hit K-drama series Jewel in the Palace.

The K-drama industry gained so much popularity in the Philippines. A lot of series from South Korea were dubbed into Filipino and aired on local networks. Some K-dramas and Korean movies are being adapted as well.

One of these hit K-dramas was Jewel in the Palace which was released on September 15, 2003. This was one of the top-rated Korean series. It had an average viewership rating of 45.8 percent and a peak of 57.1 percent.

The story follows the struggle of an orphaned kitchen cook during the 18th century Joseon. From being a cook in the palace, the lead character became a physician. In that era, women were regarded as lower than men. This was one of the many challenges that the lead character had to face and endure.

The K-drama was based on the true story of Jang-geum who was the first female royal physician of the Joseon Dynasty. It had a total of 54 episodes.

Just recently, based on the article in GMA Entertainment, Lee Young-ae will star in the new Jewel in the Palace.

Entertainment company Fantagio confirmed that the actress star in the sequel of the series. It is the new drama Uinyeo Dae Jang Geum. The series is set to start filming in October and will air early next year.

With lead actress Lee Young-ae having been cast last year in June, we recently wrapped up signing the contract with the drama scriptwriter,” the entertainment company stated.

The upcoming series will follow the life of the lead character as uinyeo, a female physician.

As of writing, no further details will revealed about the upcoming K-drama series.
