CNN Philippines Is Shutting Down – Report

What will happen to CNN Philippines?

A report claimed that the news outlet CNN Philippines is shutting down after nine years since it was established in the country.

CNN is one of the most popular and respected news agencies in the world. Nine years ago, the international media company had its branch in the Philippines. Just like the mother network, the one in the country also catered mostly to bringing news from the metropolis, as well as, from the provinces.

CNN Philippines had its first airing in March 2015. It was the first international franchise that catered to the local airwaves. Based on the report from Media Newser Philippines, the localized CNN station will not reach its 10th anniversary anymore.

Sources who spoke to Media Newser stated that Nine Media Corp. and CNN have mutually agreed that they will discontinue their licensing agreement. The apparent reason behind this decision is their “significant financial losses.”

Reportedly, the licensing deal is set to expire by the end of this year, and Nine Media Corp. is having a hard time coping with the licensing fee.

The lack ad placement also added to the financial problems that the media company is facing. With this challenges in finances, it was decided by Nine Media to best shut down the operation.

It was also said that staffers and employers of CNN Philippines will receive separation pay.

Reportedly, Channel 9 will return to be RPN 9 for the time being. Recent changes happened to the network when it aired entertainment and sports program such as the noontime variety show E.A.T. and PBA Commissioner’s Cup Season 48.

  1. CNN Int’l (USA) is the political tool of the Democrats and has been losing viewership for many years now. It’s also known as Clinton News Network during the 2016 election year.
Their news anchors are propagandists disguised as journalists. They suffer from TDS – Trump Derangement Syndrome so much so that they have abandoned journalistic integrity. I hope it shuts down, too.

I’m sorry that CNN Philippines is shutting down but not surprised at all. Filipino anchors are decent individuals unlike their counterparts in the USA. They’ll easily find employment in the industry. I wish them well. 🇵🇭

    • The Philippines’ media industry is more focused to showbiz and celebrities. If your going to sum-up, trillions are spent annually for the actresses and actors just for entertainments. Filipinos especially the fanatics are never developed to be independent minded. Most if not all are influenced by their idols.

The right education should have been demonstrated by the media. Thru actual and real show of the environment coverage. Most if not all shows in TV’s are dramas, exaggerations of emotions, that can affect the youth and the society in general, wrong direction towards the true and real God and His righteousness as known from the Bible.

  2. The CNN network is based in Atlanta Georgia USA
Their reason stated for leaving The Philippines is about
“Significant Losses”, as written in this article, that means money, so what I take from that is they are not making enough money to stay in the Philippines.
It is “news” they are providing or so they say, it is Not Lazada or Walmart. It is sad to hear that greed and corruption is the way of the world and greed and corruption will continue especially when there is no integrity or trust in a news agency as rich as CNN.
Just to repeat my point another way,”wow I didn’t know news for the people had to make a significant profit for it’s “shareholders” oh silly me, that makes sense now, CNN should change its name to CREAM-
