Rica Peralejo shared her thoughts on people unfollowing other people on social media
Celebrity mom-vlogger Rica Peralejo believes that unfollowing someone on social media is “not immaturity.”
In this modern era where social media is widely used by many people, especially prominent people in society, small gestures or actions are magnified. As they say, social media is a double-edged sword. It has its pros and cons, depending on how you will use it.
The unfollowing that happens between celebrities could not pass the netizens’ attention because this could mean an issue, conflict, misunderstanding, or separation between the two parties.
It is a sign that showbiz couples are no longer together when they unfollow each other on social media. Sometimes the unfollowing happens days, weeks, or months after the breakup confirmation happened, just like what Kapamilya actress Kathryn Bernardo did to her ex-boyfriend actor Daniel Padilla.
On the other hand, netizens also noticed that Kathryn also unfollowed several female celebrities. She is not following her fellow actresses Liza Soberano, Julia Barretto, and Gillian Vicencio.
With this, netizens would inevitably think that she is not okay with them as well. However, for some netizens, this is “pabebe” or a sign of being immature.
In line with this kind of thinking, Rica Peralejo shared her thoughts. The former actress said that this is not immaturity. For her, this is a sign that you have control over the negativity that will enter your feed or your life.
“To unfollow people on socmed [social media] is not immaturity. It is an issue of control. It is an act of agency. Especially when we unfollow abusers, gaslighters, or people we associate with the root of our oppression, it is then an empowering practice to say, even in a small way, that ‘You cannot do this to me anymore.” she wrote in her post on Threads.
