LA Tenorio Comeback Pushes Ginebra to Win Against Terrafirma
Barangay Ginebra warmly embraced LA Tenorio upon his comeback, celebrating with a victory over Terrafirma in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Barangay Ginebra secured a 110-99 triumph over Terrafirma in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Philsports Arena. Maintaining control for the majority of the game, Ginebra effectively countered every Terrafirma run, securing their fourth consecutive win and boasting an overall record of 4-1.
LA Tenorio marked his comeback in this game, returning to action after being diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in March, based on the report. His return not only contributed to the team’s victory but also brought positivity to his comeback story, having been declared cancer-free in September.
Despite facing health challenges, Tenorio, known as the PBA’s “Ironman,” made a significant impact as a starter, playing for 25 minutes and contributing six points, three assists, and a rebound. Ginebra’s coach, Tim Cone, acknowledged Tenorio’s resilience and paid tribute to his remarkable journey back to the court.
Import Tony Bishop led Ginebra’s scoring with 26 points and 11 rebounds, accompanied by four assists, two steals, and a block. Christian Standhardinger, the Fil-German big man, achieved a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Japeth Aguilar added 19 points and seven boards.
Despite missing Scottie Thompson due to a knee issue, Ginebra’s performance remained strong. Javi Gomez de Liano led Terrafirma with 22 points, and Thomas de Thaey contributed 18 points. However, Terrafirma suffered its second consecutive loss, dropping to a 2-4 record.
