T1’s Faker Bags PC Player of the Year Award in Esports 2023 Awards
The so-called “King” of League of Legends (LoL) Faker has been awarded with “Player of the Year” in 2023 Esports Awards.
Faker, renowned as the “Unkillable Demon King” and considered the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) in League of Legends (LoL), has been honored with the Esports PC Player of the Year. Additionally, he received recognition for the content of the year, specifically a documentary commemorating his remarkable 10-year journey in the esports industry.
The Esports PC Player of the Year category acknowledges an elite competitor who demonstrated outstanding performance primarily on PC over the past 12 months. The award takes into account achievements, skill level, and factors such as shaping the game’s meta, building a substantial fan base, and consistently outperforming opponents.
Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok triumphed over other nominees in the category, including CSGO player Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, Dota 2 player Quinn “Quinn” Callahan, and fellow LoL players Zhuo “Knight” Ding and Jung “Chovy” Ji-hun. In addition to Faker’s individual accolade, his team, T1, clinched the Esports Team of the Year award at the Esports Awards 2023.
Although unable to attend the ceremony in Las Vegas, Faker expressed gratitude to fans in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), especially those who followed and watched their matches during Worlds. As the newly-crowned Worlds 2024 champion, he pledged to continue giving his best.
T1, comprising Choi “Zeus” Woo-je, Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun, Lee “Gumayusi” Min-hyeong, and Ryu “Keria” Min-seok, contributed to Faker’s team success. Riot Games, the publisher of games like Valorant and League of Legends, received the Publisher of the Year award.
Valorant itself secured the “Esports Game of the Year” title. Meanwhile, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, boasting a large player base in the Philippines, was named the “Esports Mobile Game of the Year.”
