Philippine NBA 2K Team eGilas Pilipinas fails to advance in the championship round of eFiba World Finals after loss to Team USA.
The Filipino esports team, eGilas, fell short of reaching the championship match in the eFiba World Finals held in Jonkoping, Sweden. eGilas suffered a 0-2 defeat (43-33, 67-33) against Team USA in the best-of-three semifinals.
JohnnyRed emerged as the leading scorer for the opposing team, securing 18 and 23 points in the series. In Game 1, eGilas held a 21-11 lead midway through the second quarter, but Team USA managed to score two 2-pointers, keeping the match within a two-possession margin by halftime.
Team USA maintained their momentum, executing a 12-4 run in the third quarter, preventing any comeback attempts by eGilas in the final frame. The second game witnessed a one-sided affair, with the Americans initiating a 29-6 run in the payoff period to secure the first spot in the Finals.
eGilas player Prich “DonPrich” Diez expressed pride in competing on the international esports stage. Clark “LCB” Banzon, in a postgame interview, acknowledged the key role of USA’s defensive adjustments in securing their spot in the Finals, while also recognizing their strong offensive performance.
The Philippine NBA 2K delegation will compete for a bronze medal match against the Türkiye. However, Turkey secured the Bronze medal as they beat eGilas, 46-62. As of the current status, the eGilas Pilipinas roster includes Clark Banzon, Prich Diez, Isaiah Alindada, Kenneth Gutierrez, Julian Mallillin, and Coach Nite Alparas.
