Draymond Green Suspended for 5 Games Following Headlock vs Minnesota
Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green suspended for five (5) games following the headlock incident against Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert.
The NBA has handed a five-game suspension to the Golden State Warriors’ power forward, Draymond Green. This decision comes in response to Green’s actions during a heated altercation in their game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he headlocked or choked Rudy Gobert.
The incident unfolded as Clay Thompson of the Warriors confronted Jaden McDaniels of the Timberwolves, leading to a confrontation. Gobert attempted to intervene, but Green rushed and headlocked him.
Joe Dumars, NBA Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, deemed Green’s actions as dangerous and categorized them as ‘unsportsmanlike acts,’ justifying the suspension. Additionally, Gobert, Thompson, and McDaniels each received a $25,000 fine for their roles in the altercation.
Green faces the most significant consequences, both in terms of missed games and financial penalties. The suspension will result in a forfeited salary of $769,704 for him. The length of the suspension takes into account Green’s history of unsportsmanlike conduct, as noted by the NBA in the announcement of the penalties.
Thompson and McDaniels received technical fouls, while Green was assessed a flagrant foul 2. Based on the report, all three players were ejected from the game, which the Timberwolves won 104-101.
Green’s suspension means he will miss home games against Oklahoma City on Thursday and Saturday, another home game against Houston on Monday, a road game against Phoenix on November 22, and a home NBA In-Season Tournament game against San Antonio on November 24. He will be eligible to return on November 28 at Sacramento.
