The Gilas Pilipinas esports team clinched the top spot in the Southeast Asian regional division of eFIBA Season 2. In the grand finals, E-Gilas triumphed over the Indonesian national team with a decisive 2-0 victory.
In the first game of the regional finals, the Filipino team narrowly defeated the Indonesian squad 59-53, and they continued their strong performance with a convincing 57-41 win in the second match. Based on the report, this two-game sweep secured their spot in the eFIBA World Championship, which is scheduled to take place in Sweden.
Leading the way in Game 1 were Clark Banzon and Isaiah Alindada, both contributing 17 points each. In Game 2, Kenneth Gutierrez made a significant impact with 19 points, 4 steals, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists. The E-Gilas team, which also includes Julian Mallillin and Prich Diez, displayed exceptional consistency throughout the tournament, winning all 10 of their games. Their victories included matches against Singapore, Mongolia, and India.
Under the guidance of coach Nite Alparas, the Philippine team achieved an impressive average winning margin of 43.7 points. It’s worth noting that the Philippines had previously achieved a flawless 4-0 record during the eFIBA Season 2 Southeast Asia qualifiers round 1, setting a world record for the highest point total in their game against India.
This isn’t the first time that the Philippines has claimed the Southeast Asian regional championship in eFIBA, as they had also secured the title in eFIBA Season 1. The eFIBA World Championship is scheduled to take place from November 25 to 26, where the Philippines will compete against seven other nations, including New Zealand (Oceania), Lebanon (Middle East), and Morocco (Africa).
