Juan Jumalon Widow Says Killing May Not Be Work-Related

The widow of Juan Jumalon has this statement about the possible motives for his murder

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said that they will form a Special Investigation Task Group Johnny Walker who will investigate the killing of radio broadcaster Juan Jumalon.

This came after Jumalon’s widow disclosed that the radio broadcaster might have been targeted because of land and business disputes, based on the report on One News PH. Previously, police stated that there were three possible motives.

They are also exploring the possibility that this crime was work-related or something connected to the recently concluded Barangay and SK Elections.

However, based on a previous report, Jumalon’s colleagues stated that he was not a hard-hitting broadcaster and so they can’t see that this has something to do with work. This is what Juan Jumalon’s widow also believed.

On November 7, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. stated that a task force was formed to focus on the investigation. “We understand the profound grief and anguish that this loss has caused, and we stand in solidarity with the family throughout this difficult period,” the PNP chief said.

Acorda also asked the community to cooperate in this case and said this would be very helpful for them.

Jerrebel Jumalon, the widow of the slain broadcaster, said that her husband was focused on entertainment as a radioman and not on hard news. With this, they are leaning more on the possibility that it was due to the land and business dispute.

She revealed that her husband filed a criminal case for falsification of public documents before a municipal trial court in Oroquieta, Misamis Occidental. It is because the deed of sale for a land property sold to them was signed by people who were already dead.

Jerrebel said that her husband filed a case against a husband and a wife but this couple has a connection to the province and that their child was a former government official. She also revealed that the said couple tried to evict them from the lot. The widow of Juan Jumalon said that they were also involved in a business-related case with the couple who owned a rival radio station.
