Are you one of those people who use AI photo enhancing apps?
The world easily succumbed to AI photo enhancing apps after several celebrities started posting their altered photos.
There have been several fads that caught the attention of many people and eventually enticed them to join what is “in.” In the Philippines, it is a common trait of many people to do “nakikiuso” or join the latest trend or fad in fashion, lifestyle, and whatever field.
These past few days, photo-enhancing applications powered by artificial intelligence or AI gained so much popularity.
Many celebrities in the entertainment industry shared their photos edited from the said application. Of course, their fans joined the fad, and more and more people tried this latest trend.
However, there might be a hidden danger in this. Based on the article in Inquirer, Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. ordered the employees of the Department of National Defense (DND) to refrain from using AI photo enhancing apps.
In a memorandum signed by Teodoro, it was stated, “All DND and AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) personnel are directed to refrain from using AI photo generator applications and practice vigilance in sharing information online.”
The statement added that people may think that these apps are harmless and amusing but apps powered by AI can be “maliciously used to create fake profiles that can lead to identity theft, social engineering, phishing attacks, and other malicious activities.”
Why do people have the tendency to blindly follow what is “uso” or popular? Are we that gullible? Perhaps these fad-followers just have the desire to be included in the circle of “cool” people because they are joining the trend.
With the power that the internet can do and the things the current technology the world possesses, people should be more aware of where they put their faces in. Is the fad worth your safety?
