A diving instructor expressed his disappointment when his group found a lifeless sea turtle and shark inside a fishing net.

East Pardillo, a Facebook user, shared the photos of a lifeless sea turtle and shark entangled inside of a fishing net. The post immediately spread online and garnered various reactions from the internet users.

Pardillo and his group went for a routine dive in Maasim, Sarangani when they stumbled upon a distressing scene beneath the waves. The team found a lifeless sea turtle and shark inside a fishing net entangled in a coral reef.

The group’s supposed joyful underwater adventure quickly transformed into what they described as an “emotional dive” due to the unexpected discovery.

The net they encountered was a huge, formidable structure, stretching as big as a basketball court. The team could only imagine the destruction it caused to the fragile marine ecosystem.

The team ventured to rescue two other sharks entrapped within the net and used a dive knife to free the struggling sharks from their entanglement.

Despite this, the net remained stuck in the corals and rocks, preventing attempts to recover it by local fishermen in two wooden boats. Faced with this terrible scenario, the divers decided to separate themselves from the net and the nearby vessels.

“After that, we swam away from the net and their boats before hitting the surface coz we were so worried that we might have a big commotion with the fisherfolks. We took the dead turtle and shark with us as evidence,” Pardillo said.

“When will we ever Learn???

A fishing net the size of a basketball court or maybe even bigger was dropped into the ocean (in a Marine Protected Zone) and trapped 3 sharks and an adult turtle.

We were only able to set 2 sharks free as the turtle and one other Shark were already dead when we got there. What if we never even found them on time? What about the other incidents that divers do not ever find? Our team South Point Divers – Sarangani and I can only do so much. We are just a grain of sand in the ocean. WE ARE NOT ENOUGH.

So for those who are in position to actually make a bigger impact….

Please…….

They say “choose your battles”. If we don’t choose to do something about this, WE ALL LOSE. So yes, I’m choosing to be in this battle. And wether you like it or not, you are too.

Sometimes people are so occupied about promotions. What about “protection”?

Just Sayin!”
