Donny Pangilinan learned new things through his new series
Kapamilya actor Donny Pangilinan experienced riding a jeepney for the first time because of his new series Can’t Buy Me Love.
In the series, he is paired with his loveteam partner Belle Mariano. Donny plays Bingo in the series, a poor boy who is an online seller juggling different jobs to make ends meet, based on the article in The Philippine Star.
Donny had a scene in which he had to ride a jeepney. Direk Mae Cruz-Alviar, one of the directors of the series, shared that Donny Pangilinan was told to shed his gentlemanly attitude in a scene in which he had to ride a jeepney.
“’Yung sa jeep na eksena, dapat nagmamadali kayo… so take, action! Si Donny, hinayaan lahat, pumila s’ya! Sabi ko, hindi ‘to pila,” Direk Mae said. She said that the actor was too polite as he was making other passengers go first.
Then, the director noticed that Donny was observing how other passengers ride the jeepney. Because of this, she confronted the actor. “First time mo bang sumakay ng jeep?” Direk Mae asked Donny and he said, “Opo.” “First time n’ya so nanibago talaga s’ya du’n,” the director added.
The young actor is the son of seasoned actress Maricel Laxa and TV host Anthony Pangilinan. Donny Pangilinan also shared that in order to understand more his character, he, Direk Mae, and other staff members of the production team roam around Binondo and Divisoria. The director told the actor to observe how ordinary workers do their jobs. His character also has different jobs like that and he must understand how that works.
“Kasi andaming pagdadaanan ni Bingo sa series na ‘to kaya I want to make sure na alam ko rin ‘yung mga pagdadaanan ni Bingo at alam ko rin kung papaano sila magsalita. I also get a lot of help from my co-actors here – sina kuya Ketchup (Eusebio), Hyubs (Azarcon), si Anthony (Jennings)…” the actor said.
Donny said that thanks to the team behind the series he lives in his character’s poor man’s shoes now.
