Michael V talked about the role of MTRCB
Kapuso seasoned comedian Michael V revealed that there was also a time when the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) summoned him.
Michael, also known as Bitoy in the entertainment industry, has a brand of comedy that is loved by many. He is one of the people behind the longest-running gag show Bubble Gang. His sitcom Pepito Manaloto is also a big hit that has been airing for almost a decade now.
Just recently, Bitoy was one of the comedians who received recognition during the 2023 Philippine Film Industry Month organized by the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
In his acceptance speech, Michael V said that nowadays, it is so difficult to be a comedian with all the restrictions and negative reactions from woke critics. This was used by Henyo Master Joey de Leon to answer his bashers.
During the same event, based on the article in Inquirer, Bitoy said that MTRCB’s role is as a mediator. “Kahit naman sabihin nila na, ‘Huwag mong gawin ito,’ pwede mo pa rin namang ipilit kung gusto mo talaga. Kaya lang, magkaka-problema ka,” he said.
He added that it seemed that comedians were tiptoeing right now because the board was intently monitoring their every move.
“Ngayon, kung ikaw ay persistent talaga na komedyante, and you want to prove a point, you will find a way para maipaalam sa mga tao, sa netizens at sa MTRCB na, ‘Itong ginagawa ko, hindi mali.’ There are ways,” the Kapuso comedian said.
He stressed that at this point, the comedian’s good character surfaces. Bitoy also said that restrictions come from society and the TV network won’t allow their talents to do inappropriate things. “So, we take it on ourselves, kami na ‘yung may self-censorship,” he said.
Then, Michael V revealed that even he was once summoned by MTRCB. However, the Kapuso comedian did not reveal the details of this.
“Actually na-summon na kami ng MTRCB, recently nga nakuha ko ‘yung letter. Ise-share ko sa social media para lang mapaalala sa mga tao na talagang nangyayari ito kahit noon pa,” Bitoy said.
He also shared that right now during tapings, they would have lawyers on the set which was not the case before. Bitoy said that they learned from past experiences and they are abiding by what the rules and regulations dictated.
