An amateur boxer from Davao del Sur, Anselmo Tagalog Jr., found himself in critical condition after falling into a coma shortly following his debut fight, which he lost. This match took place during the 71st Araw ng Bansalan event on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

Gina dela Cruz, the boxer’s mother, shared that her son has shown signs of improvement, as he has been able to move his limbs and open and close his eyes. She also mentioned that the doctor has expressed optimism about his recovery.
In light of the medical expenses involved, the boxer’s mother is seeking financial assistance for her son’s treatment. She has appealed to both the local government of Bansalan and the event organizers to provide support for her son’s recovery.
