Kapuso singer-actress Rita Daniela spoke about the “sapawan” issue that surfaced after Queendom’s performance at Mike Enriquez’s funeral.
Rita is part of the all-female group that performs on All-Out Sundays. The group also consists of powerful singers Julie Anne San Jose, Thea Astley, Jessica Villarubin, Mariane Osabel, and Hannah Precillas.
Their group went viral after they performed before the people who showed their love for the late broadcaster who was well-respected in the industry.
The reason why Queendom’s performance went viral was that Jessica Villarubin went overboard. Netizens did not like the way she sang as for them, she looked like she was in an AOS performance trying to surpass her fellow singers.
In a recent interview by PEP, Rita Daniela was asked about the “sapawan” issue. In videos that surfaced online. It can be seen that other singers were looking at Jessica while she was singing her part. Then, they harmonized while Jessica continued her part.
Rita said that there was no issue within the group and they did not think that there was “sapawan” at all. She explained that it is how they are when they perform, they tend to look at the one singing the certain part.
The singer-actress also explained that there was no ill feeling when she was looking at Jessica. She also shared that they just rehearsed the song on the same day of the performance and they were looking at each other while performing in order to make sure that they were doing the right harmony.
“Syempre kailangan naming makiramdam, kapain,” she said. Rita Daniela also mentioned that she did not know that an issue surfaced from their performance. She said that it was Julie Anne who said that they were trending because of that performance and they just laughed about it.
Rita also stressed that some people just speculated and expressed negative reactions but she said about Jessica, “She is just really performing. That’s just how she is.”
