MTRCB Decision To Suspend It’s Showtime Gets “High Respect”

CCM praised the decision of MTRCB regarding the It’s Showtime issue

The decision of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to suspend the Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime got “high respect” from the Christian Coalition Movement (CCM).

To recall, because of the icing incident that celebrity couple Vice Ganda and Ion Perez had. This did not sit well with the viewers and so complaints were made. The It’s Showtime’s producer was summoned by the classification board because of this.

Eventually, the decision was released. The board decided to suspend the Kapamilya noontime show for 12 days.

This decision that MTRCB made garnered different reactions. Fans of the show criticized the board and accused the people behind it are being unfair. There were even those who called out for the resignation of chair Lala Sotto.

However, there were also those who commended the board, just like what CCM did, based on the article in Inquirer. CEO Bishop Vincent Vicencio said that the Kapamilya noontime show cannot hide their violation behind the shadow of freedom of speech.

With this, the religious group expressed “high respect” and “full support” to the classification board.

In this jurisdiction, it is settled that freedom of speech is not absolute and the burden of overthrowing the presumption of invalidity rests on the one restraining or censoring the same in accordance with the applicable law,” CCM stated.

The coalition also commended Chair Sotto for choosing not to vote in this matter. Previously, she revealed that she inhibited herself from voting. It is known to many that the chairwoman is the daughter of Tito Sotto, who is part of the Kapatid noontime show E.A.T.

In this time and age, we need more public officials like Chairperson Lala Sotto to be a model of probity, independence, and prudence and to head our government agencies in the discharge of its Constitutional and lawful mandates,” CCM said about the MTRCB head.
