Based on Tom’s Guide’s testing, the MacBook Air M2 currently ranks as the top laptop for most users. While the more affordable MacBook Air M1 is decent, the Air M2 surpasses it with its slimmer, lighter, and faster profile, along with an improved webcam.

Priced at $1,199 (tested at $1,899), the new MacBook Air M2 combines a more potent M2 chip with a sleeker design. However, it’s worth noting that the Air M2 comes with a higher price tag, even though the $999 MacBook Air M1 is still available. In terms of overall value for your money, the MacBook Air M2 stands out as the best choice and is particularly suitable for college students if it fits your budget.

The starting price of the MacBook Air M2 is $1,199, which is $200 more than the MacBook Air M1. The base configuration includes an 8-core CPU, a 10-core GPU, 8GB of unified memory, and 512GB of storage. While it’s a premium device, these specifications offer excellent performance for the price.

The MacBook Air M2 boasts an incredibly slim profile, to the point where it might be mistaken for an iPad when closed, especially with the Apple logo facing out. Measuring just 0.44 inches thick when open, this notebook makes an everyday Bic pen look bulky by comparison.

Overall, the Air M2 is 20% smaller in terms of volume compared to its predecessor, despite featuring a larger 13.6-inch display. The all-aluminum chassis, weighing only 2.7 pounds, strikes an ideal balance between durability and portability.

If you want to make a style statement, you can choose the MacBook Air M2 in Starlight (pale gold) or Midnight (dark blue). However, if you prefer a more conservative look, Silver or Space Gray are also available.

In terms of ports, Apple keeps it minimal with the MacBook Air M2, offering two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports on the left side, along with a MagSafe power adapter.
