Lala Sotto Defends MTRCB’s Decision To Suspend It’s Showtime

Lala Sotto speaks about It’s Showtime’s suspension

Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) Chair Lala Sotto defended the agency’s decision to suspend Kapamilya noontime show It’s Showtime.

MTRCB released a decision on September suspending the Kapamilya noontime show for 12 days. The agency cited It’s Showtime’s violations, warnings, and multiple complaints against the show.

To recall, the issue between the show and the MTRCB created a buzz in the entertainment industry when Vice Ganda and Ion Perez had a supposed indecent moment when they ate cake. Because of this, the agency summoned the producer of the noontime show.

MTRCB received criticism because of this, especially since chairwoman Lala Sotto is the daughter of veteran showbiz personality Tito Sotto, who is one of the hosts of E.A.T., the rival noontime show of It’s Showtime.

Following MTRCB’s decision to suspend the Kapamilya noontime show, the chairwoman once again received criticism online, especially from the fans of the Kapamilya noontime show. Netizens called out the chairwoman as they said she was being unfair.

Amid the bashing, Sotto defended the decision that the MTRCB made against It’s Showtime. In a video clip shared on DLSU Animo Defender’s X account, the chairwoman stressed that she will be strict.

She also said that she will not make a decision against the show as long as it will not cause disturbance to the mind of a child. “My basis will be my spiritual conviction,” she said.

Previously, Lala Sotto was also accused of being unfair for calling out It’s Showtime when her own parents, Tito Sotto and Helen Gamboa, had an intimate kiss on air. She defended that her parents have been doing this for 40 years already. The chairwoman also stressed that she did not see any violation in that.
