Vina Morales is now part of ‘Here Lies Love’
Singer-actress Vina Morales talked about replacing Tony Award winning star Lea Salonga in the musical Here Lies Love.
It is inevitable that comparison will happen between Vina and Lea. It was recently announced that Lea will be part of the said production. Lea played the role of Aurora Aquino in the musical that is based on the rise and fall of former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
This debuted on Broadway last month and has received positive reviews. After Lea, Vina will step in starting September 22 to October 22, based on that article in The Philippine Star.
Vina Morales actually auditioned for this production 10 years ago when it was staged in London’s National Theatre. She is aware that there are people who would compare her to Lea Salonga.
However, she is not minding this kind of reaction because she is focusing on doing her job. “I cannot stop them from thinking of that. But, I know in my heart I will give my best. I promise to give my best on portraying the role of Aurora Aquino,” Vina said.
She added that she knows Lea is a perfectionist and she also gives her best in every performance that she does. Vina also praised the Pinay Broadway diva for her performances in the past musicals that she did because this paved a way for more Pinoy talents to be part of this kind of project.
Through Lea’s excellence, more doors in Broadway and West End opened for Pinoy artists. Vina also shared that Lea informed her that she will play the role of Aurora Aquino in the next production. The Broadway diva also gave some tips.
“She is a grieving mom, mother of Ninoy nung assassination niya. ‘Yung pagkagawa ng lyrics ni David Byrne, nandodoon, kumpleto. Nandoon ‘yung pain, ‘yung brokenness ni Aurora Aquino,” Vina Morales shared.
Meanwhile, aside from Vina’s new milestone when it comes to her career, she also opened up about her love life just recently as she found love with a non-showbiz guy.
