SBP Reacts on Claims Jordan Clarkson of Gilas Pilipinas Allegedly Has Injury
Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) denied the claims the Filipino-American basketball player Jordan Clarkson got an injury.
The SBP quickly debunked reports that Gilas Pilipinas guard Jordan Clarkson is already hurt, despite the fact that the FIBA World Cup 2023 has yet to begin. Coach Chot Reyes did not involve Clarkson in the Gilas’ previous tuneup match against Mexico, fueling speculation.
Based on the previous article, this Monday night, the Gilas team was defeated by Mexico, 84-77. According to Gilas team manager Butch Antonio, the Utah Jazz player rested only four days before the FWC.
“He just needed rest,” explained Antonio, based on the article of Abante. “Nothing like that (injury). He really just wanted to rest.”
JC appeared in both the 85-62 triumph over the Ivorians and the 102-87 loss to the Montenegro on Sunday. He appeared for nearly 30 minutes against Montenegro. In a losing effort, JC led Gilas with 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 9-of-9 at the free-throw line.
In 29 minutes, Clarkson also has two rebounds, five assists, one steal, and a game-high eight turnovers. Meanwhile, JC, Thirdy Ravena, and Ray Parks were rested from Gilas’ last tuneup game against Mexico.
The Guerreros embarked on a 12-2 run late in the third period to turn a four-point deficit into a 69-63 lead heading into the final 12 minutes. Mexico was always ready with a solution to seal the victory in a game played behind closed doors at the Philsports Arena.
According to the Spin article, Scottie Thompson took over the offensive chores for Gilas, scoring 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting in Clarkson’s absence, who was rested by the national coaching staff. Thompson had six rebounds and five assists, while Dwight Ramos and Roger Pogoy each had nine, with Pogoy having his best game in Gilas’ three friendly in the last four days.
Kai Sotto had 8 points (2/4fg, 1/1 3pt, 3/4ft), 2 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Gilas shot 45.2% from the field (28/62fg), including 7-of-23 from distance. Mexico, on the other hand, made 31 of 65 field goals and 13 of 24 three-point attempts. The Gilas made 14 of 19 free throws, while the Guerreros made 9 of 12 free throws. Both teams had 13 turnovers.
