Potato Corner Releases Statement On Viral Job Qualifications

Potato Corner is trending online because of a recent job posting

Snack brand Potato Corner released a statement on a viral post that featured the requirements for a service crew.

The said company which is known for its flavored french fries is among the favorite go-to snack establishment of many Filipinos. However, just recently, the famous snack brand became a trending topic because of a negative issue.

It is because of a job posting that circulated online. For many netizens, the requirements that the company posted were too much for a service crew.

Some netizens pointed out that Potato Corner seemed to be looking for a beauty queen or the next Miss Universe.

The job posting stated qualities that the company is looking for and mostly, it was concentrated on the physical aspect like “good visual impact and pleasing personality, weight must be proportionate to height and have clear complexion, eyesight and a good set of teeth.”

This is the reason why memes featuring beauty queens circulated on social media, just like what X (Twitter) user @kieldamasco shared featuring Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.

Another netizen shared this funny post and this featured the supposed first batch of applicants for the snack brand’s service crew job posting.

In line with this issue, the snack brand released a statement, based on the article in The Philippine Star. The company clarified that the post came from a yet-to-be-opened branch. It also said that they value diversity and inclusivity. The company stressed that it will not be silent about discriminatory ways of hiring crews. Potato Corner also promised that this incident will not happen again.

Here is the full statement.

“We are addressing this recent incident involving a well-meaning but insensitive job posting. The PotatoCorner branch in Ventura Mall is not yet operational but will open soon.

At PotatoCorner, we firmly believe in the value of diversity and inclusion, true to what the brand provides to our cherished guests and valued business partners. We do not support or condone discriminatory hiring practices.

We deeply regret the oversight in the job posting. We, together with our business partners, are working to ensure that such incidents will not happen in the future.”
