WalangPasok: President Marcos Declares Suspension of Classes, Gov’t Works on July 24, 2023

President Marcos Suspends Classes and Gov’t Works Due to Transport Strike and Egay

President Marcos announced the suspension of all classes in public schools at all levels and work in government agencies in Metro Manila on Monday, July 24, 2023 due to tropical depression Egay and 72-hour transport strike.

Manibela National President Mar Valbuena said that around 200,000 PUVs are expected to join the transport strike, which will be held from July 24 to 26, 2023. It coincides with President Marcos’ second State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday.

Circular No. 25 was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on July 21 but only made public to the media on Saturday to guarantee citizens’ safety and well-being. The government is taking early efforts to avert any potential dangers and disruptions caused by the expected extreme weather and planned transportation strike.

The circular nevertheless accept that the suspension of classes and employment in private firms would be at the discretion of their separate leaders. This change enables private companies to make educated decisions based on their individual circumstances and employee safety.
