Drag Queen Vinzon Leojay Rubia Booc, commonly known as Lady Gagita, reacts to General Santos LGU’s order against Pura Luka. The controversial drag queen was proclaimed “persona non grata” and prevented from entering the city.
According to a GMA Regional TV report, the drag queen was sternly chastised by local authorities for her viral drag show. The GenSan Council emphasized in its resolution that such behavior will not be tolerated.
Councilor Vandyke Congson stated that his film clearly offended the Christian community’s sensibilities. He is also denigrating the beliefs of millions of Filipinos and disregarding the Catholic Church’s sacred element.
Meanwhile, people on Facebook are calling for the drag queen to be banned not only in GenSan, but across the Philippines. Drag Queen Lady Gagita, was among those who reacted to the situation.
He questioned the decision of GenSan LGU, “ano naman gagawin ni luka dyan sa gensan hahaha.”
Pura Luka Vega rose to prominence after a video of him performing a remix of the Filipino Lord’s Prayer, “Ama Namin,” while dressed as Jesus Christ went viral. The public, including senators, condemned the performance as vulgar, insulting, and blasphemous.
The drag queen has justified her actions, claiming that everyone has the right to free thinking, conscience, and religion. Despite the criticism, Vega stated her intention to continue mimicking Jesus Christ in order to pay honor to the Catholic Church from a unique gay perspective.
Senators including Senator JV Ejercito also condemned Pura Luka Vega and his actions were deemed “blasphemous” by others. Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri even suggested filing criminal proceedings under Article 201 of the Revised Penal Code.
