JV Ejercito Slams Viral Video of Drag Queen Partying on “Ama Namin” Remix
Senator JV Ejercito airs dismay at the viral video of a Drag Queen partying on the “Ama Namin” (Lord’s Prayer) remix.
Pura Luka Vega, a drag queen, has received backlash on social media after releasing a video of himself and other LGBTQ+ members partying to the Tagalog version of “Lord’s Prayer” but in remix form. The caption stated, “Thank you for coming to church!”
Many netizens called the drag queen’s act “offensive” and “blasphemous,” while the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) condemned it as entirely disrespectful.
Senator JV Ejercito also resorted to social media to express his disapproval with the contentious drag show. According to the Senator, who is a devoted Catholic who was born and bred Catholic, the performance’s comedy is incredibly rude and disrespectful.
“As a devout Catholic, born and raised in the Catholic faith, I agree with the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), that objects of faith should not be used for entertainment purposes, more so, to mock God and his faithful,” he wrote in his post.
“Ama Namin (The Lord’s Prayer) is sacred to us Christians; using it for humor is extremely offensive and disrespectful. Artists should always exercise discernment, as their craft may inspire division or worse, aggression. We should learn to respect each other’s faith and religion,” he added.
