Batangas Mayor Arrested Along with 2 Brothers Over Illegal Possession of Firearms

Police authorities arrested the Batangas Mayor along with his two (2) brothers for alleged illegal possession of firearms.

The mayor of Mabini and his two brothers were apprehended by police after they were found carrying unauthorized firearms. According to the story, they were apprehended during a prepared raid on their individual homes on Saturday morning.

The suspect has been identified as Nilo Villanueva, mayor of Mabini, by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-National Capital Region (PNP CIDG-NCR). Bayani Villanueva, a barangay captain and president of the Association of Barangay Chairman (ABC), and Oliver Villanueva, a former police officer, were recognized as Villanueva’s two brothers.

The operation was carried out at the brothers’ home by PNP CIDG-NCR personnel in response to a search order issued by Antipolo City Regional Trial Court Branch 74 Executive Judge Mary Josephine Lazaro. The cops began their assault on Oliver’s home in Sitio Pook, Barangay Pulong Niogan.

Authorities seized one caliber.22 pistol, one caliber.45 pistol, two magazines of caliber 5.56mm rifle ammunition, and three magazines of caliber.45 pistol ammunition, one grenade, 16 rolls of caliber 5.56mm rifle ammunition, and 55 rolls of caliber.45 pistol ammunition.

According to the report, the mayor’s house in Sitio Silangan, Barangay Santo Tomas was attacked at 4:30 a.m., and a bag containing a suspected explosive device was seized. Bayani’s residence in Brgy Sto. Silangan. Around 5:25 a.m., Tomas was also raided.

A Bushmaster caliber 5.56mm rifle, a caliber 5.56mm rifle magazine, ten rolls of caliber 5.56mm rifle ammo, and an MK2 hand fragmentation grenade were located. Charges are being prepared against the brothers, who are already in CIDG detention at Camp Crame.
