FDA Issues Warning Against Different Types Toxic Lato-Lato Toys
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issues a warning against different types of toxic lato-lato toys in the market.
The FDA issued Public Health Warnings against purchasing and using some “lato-lato” children’s toys that did not pass their inspection. Unlabeled green lato-lato, pro-clackers (lato-lato) with light, and lato-lato sold on an online shopping platform (Lato-lato toys with handle glow in the dark, latto-latto toy-toy, tok-tok old school toy, etek toy lato-lato makasar) were identified in the FDA warning.
As a result, the quality and safety of such toys is unknown, particularly for children. According to Thony Dizon, Toxics Campaigner at BAN Toxics, the FDA’s decision to issue a public health warning is correct because it will prevent some of the product’s possible safety problems for children, such as choking, eye injury, and strangulation.
Following this, the group urged regulatory bodies, particularly local governments, to vigorously enforce the advisory and seize unnotified and unregistered lato-lato toys. It also urged toy retailers to stop selling unlawful lato-lato toys, particularly to children.
BAN Toxics is the first organization to warn the public against purchasing “lato-lato” children’s toys because the majority of them lack adequate labeling and cautionary remarks, in violation of Republic Act 10620, or the Toy and Game Safety Labeling Act of 2013.
Criminal sanctions are imposed under R.A. 10620 carries a fine of not less than ten thousand pesos (P10,000.00) but not more than fifty thousand pesos (P50,000.00), or both imprisonment and fine at the discretion of the court.
