Rabiya Mateo is still looking for her biological father
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo expressed optimism about finding her biological father someday.
Rabiya was raised by a single mother, Christine Occeña, but this did not hinder her to pursue where she wants to be. After winning the national pageant three years ago, the Ilongga beauty has more ways and wider scope to reach out to her father.
In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, Rabiya separated from her father Mohammed Abdullah Syed Moqueet Hashmi, an Indian-American national, when she was five years old.
Rabiya Mateo said, from what she learned, that her father is in the US and the last state that he was is in Chicago.
“I tried to look for him, even yung mga kasing-last name niya na taga-Chicago mine-message ko. Pero sad ending talaga palagi. Like, they don’t know my dad,” the Kapuso star said.
However, the actress said that she is not losing hope and she is optimistic that she will see her father soon.
Rabiya said that she has no ill feelings towards her father. Back in 2020 when she competed for the Miss Universe that was held in Florido, she thought of taking that opportunity to find her father.
However, at that time, she had other priorities and she was following a schedule and hand to go back to the Philippines. “So, siguro ngayon na I have the resources na, gusto kong maglaan po sana ng at least one month to be there and to look for him,” Rabiya Mateo said.
When asked if she questioned why after winning the pageant, and after her name became popular, her father did not reach out, she said, “Marami din pong nagsabi nun. Pero ako po, parang positive energy pa rin yung meron ako in my heart, na he has his reason kung bakit. And instead of judging him, I need to understand him.”
