Piolo Pascual is currently doing a musical
A-list actor Piolo Pascual shared how he prepared for his title role in the musical Ibarra, based on Jose Rizal’s novel.
Aside from acting, Piolo, also known as Papa P in the entertainment industry, does song performances. So, it is not surprising that he will do a musical play. His most recent theater project is a historical piece from Rizal’s writings.
In a recent interview, based on the article in Inquirer, Piolo shared what he did in order to prepare for this big project which is different from what he usually does in movies and teleseryes.
Piolo Pascual said that he read a lot of stories about Rizal. “I’m not as well versed about him compared to others, but I’m confident that I know his story,” the actor shared. He said that it is common knowledge that Crisostomo Ibarra is the pseudonym of Rizal, while Simoun is the name that Ibarra used as his disguise.
The actor also shared that this story is close to his heart because it is the first story that he read. Then, it became his favorite and it remained in his heart. “While preparing and doing the musical, it’s now all coming back to me,” Piolo added.
He also said that the story was presented in a different timeline but the situation is still happening in this present time. The actor stressed that right now, things just went digital but the same oppression is still happening.
The actor hopes that people will watch the musical with the motivation that they want to know more about the social issue and how to stop this from happening and not just because he is the lead star.
“I hope people will be interested to watch the show, not because of me, but because they want to know more about our roots and what we can do to stop the oppression. I hope they will be able to take home something from the story and be inspired by it to do something for the country,” Piolo Pascual said.
This musical will run until June 18 at the GSIS Theater in Pasay City.
