Rabiya Mateo shared her thoughts on changes happening in Miss Universe
Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo speaks about the decision of Miss Universe to accept candidates who are married women and mothers.
Rabiya is one of the beauty queens who were able to snatch the national pageant title with just one try. From being a beauty queen, the Ilongga beauty was able to transition into acting.
She is also ventured into hosting. Currently, she is part of the Kapuso show Ticktoclock with Kim Atienza and Pokwang.
As someone who competed in Miss Universe, Rabiya Mateo was asked in a recent interview by Bandera regarding her thoughts on married women, transwomen, and even mothers who are now allowed to join the most prestigious international pageant.
Rabiya explained that people in Miss Universe Organization now are focusing on inclusivity. Then, she asked if a woman already give birth, does this mean that being a strong woman already stopped?
“Now, they want to include everybody and I know marami ang magtataas ng kilay because iba yung nakasanayan nila,” she said. However, Rabiya stressed that change is good and this kind of change is a powerful message.
With this, the Ilongga beauty said that she is supporting this change. She also stressed that mothers who join the beauty contest are not the automatic winners but they should be allowed to compete.
Rabiya Mateo also said that transwomen, married women, and mothers have powerful stories to tell as well. She added that this is the goal of a beauty pageant – to be transformative.
Meanwhile, in a recent statement, Rabiya also showed support for her fellow beauty queen Michelle Dee. To recall, Michelle revealed to the public that she is bis=xual after the Miss Universe Philippines 2023 competition.
