The veteran actor John Regala battles several illnesses before he passed away at the age of 58 due to cardiac arrest.
Regala has been in and out of the hospital over the years because of liver cirrhosis, gout, and diabetes. It can be recalled that photos of a frail-looking John Regala wearing a facemask sitting at a street-side food stand surfaced online.
The actor, dressed in a shirt, jeans, and slip-on and clutching a little bag, appeared frail and sickly. He was apparently sitting down because he was dizzy. His friend Nadia Montenegro, who was watching over him, had previously revealed the legendary actor’s condition. According to her, the actor becomes bloated and unable to consume meals.

John Regala Passed Away Due to Cardiac Arrest
JOHN REGALA – The wife of the veteran actor confirmed that he has passed away due to cardiac arrest after years of battling illness.
The veteran actor is said to have died on Saturday, June 3, 2023. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, his wife stated that the actor died of heart arrest caused by liver and kidney issues.
“He died at 6:28 a.m. of cardiac arrest due to liver and kidney complications at the New Era General Hospital,” Regala’s wife, Victoria Scherrer, said during the interview with ABS-CBN News.
Scherrer claimed that the actor had been in critical care at a hospital in Quezon City for three weeks before passing away. Scherrer expressed gratitude to the Iglesia ni Cristo group for its support of Regala throughout his terminal illness.
“Nagpapasalamat din ako sa mga kapwa niya artista, gayundin ang mga studio, lahat po, na tumulong sa kanya,” she said.
“Gayundin sa tiyuhin niyang si senator Robin Padilla at sa kanyang pamilya na hindi siya pinabayaan. Napakabuti po niya!” she added.
According to the article, Regala’s family is still completing plans for the actor’s wake at St. Peter Chapels in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.
The legendary cinematic villain was born John Paul Guido Boucher Scherrer, the son of actor Mel Francisco and Ruby Regala. John has ancestors from Spain, Germany, Italy, and France.
Regala began his career as a member of “That’s Entertainment” in the 1980s before going on to play as an action lead and villain in films such as “Boy Kristiano,” “Isa-Isahin ko Kayo,” “Primitivo Ebok Ala: Kalaban Mortal ni Baby Ama,” and “The Vizconde Massacre: God Help Us.”
He also appeared in the horror comedy “Zombading: Patayin Sa Shokot Si Remington” and was nominated for best-supporting actor in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival film “Manila Kingpin: The Asiong Salonga Story.”
