Many people were drawn to Vice President Sara Duterte’s popular Instagram picture because of the insightful caption that accompanied her photo. On Sunday, May 21, 2023, the photo was posted with the caption “bisaya” by the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte
“Sa imong ambisyon, do not be tambaloslos,” she wrote in her post.
It is unclear what or for whom the position of vice president is intended. Meanwhile, many netizens were perplexed by the term “tambalolos,” which is supposed to relate to a legendary creature characterized as a “monster or strange creature with a large mouth and penis” heard in folklore in the Visayas, Bicol, and Mindanao.
Duterte announced her resignation as a member of the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) party on Friday, May 19. Lakas-CMD made an instant statement in response, stating that they respect the vice president’s decision.
According to reports, Duterte resigned from Lakas-CMD following the “demotion” of Pampanga 2nd district Representative and Lakas-CMD Chairperson Emeritus Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as senior deputy speaker in the Chamber’s plenary session. According to Makabayan solons, Arroyo’s “demotion” may be the start of “cracks” in such an alliance.
The purported link between President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Duterte is House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the president of the Lakas-CMD party. During the May 9, 2022 elections, Romualdez was also the campaign manager for Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.
On the same day, Marcos stated that he believes Duterte resigned as a member of Lakas-CMD because he wanted to devote the majority of his time to his several government jobs.
