2 Fake Police Civilian Employees Arrested in Quezon City

Authorities arrested two (2) individuals after they were allegedly posing as police civilian employees in Quezon City.

A man and a woman were arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) Quezon City District Anti-Cybercrime Team (QCDACT) for impersonating non-uniformed police personnel (NUP).  They were allegedly seeking financial support for team-building events.

The suspects were identified as Editha De Jesus Candelaria, 48, of San Fernando, Pampanga, and Allan Roque Castillano Jr., 47, of Gapan, Nueva Ecija. According to the police, they were apprehended at around 7 p.m. in an entrapment operation in Barangay Unang Sigaw, Quezon City. on the 24th of April.

According to the report, a police officer approached the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Novaliches Station after receiving a message from one Arnold Santos, who introduced himself as a NUP allegedly assigned to the National Capital Region Police Office – Office of the Regional Director, and asked for financial assistance for their team-building.

Col. Jerry Castillo, PS 4 commander, also received a message from the official NCRPO Viber Group informing all NCRPO Station Commanders of the same issue. The entrapment operation was conducted by the QCDACT and the PS 4 and money was given to the accused via GCash remittance.

Responding officers apprehended the suspects after they attempted to withdraw money from a GCash Remittance Store in Barangay Unang Sigaw. P5,000 and one pink OPPO F1 mobile were recovered from their possession.

According to authorities, the accused are charged with Usurpation of Official Functions and Swindling of the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012. Brig. General Torre III, Director of the QCPD, reminds citizens not to blindly accept persons who exploit the names of famous people to deceive or defraud them.
