Teves Appeals to Junk Illegal Possession of Firearms Case Filed Against Him

Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr appeals to junk illegal possession of firearms and explosives charges filed against him.

Teves wishes to have the allegations against him and his two sons, Kurt Matthew and Axel, dropped by the Department of Justice (DOJ). This is related to the execution of a search warrant at the congressman’s home in Bayawan City on March 10.

The PNP-CIDG seized various firearms and explosives, according to the report. The Teves family was charged with violating RAs 10591 and 9516. According to the Teves family’s lawyer, Atty Ferdinand Topacio, cases against the family must be settled by the DOJ within 60 days.

He further stated that Rep Teves was not present when the PNP invaded their home. He further claimed that the seizure of firearms and explosives was unconstitutional because the necessary procedure for carrying out the search warrant was not followed.

According to Teves, the government appears to be using them as a “trophy” to prove that he is the mastermind behind the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo. He even compared himself to Gerald Bantag, the suspended chief of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).

In response, Justice Department Spokesperson Mico Clavano stated that the department is and always will be evidence-based. Teves had previously claimed that police had raided several of his other properties, including the most recent, a chicken farm, based on the report.
