Ed Sheeran Serenades Fans Impromptu After Winning His Copyright Case
International singer Ed Sheeran serenades fans impromptu on the top of a car after allegedly winning his copyright case.
Ed Sheeran posted a video of himself serenading his fans on Instagram. The musician gave an impromptu performance of his song “Boat” to his fans atop a parked vehicle in New York City.
“Standing on a Volvo in New York outside the pop up,” he wrote in his post.
The unexpected performance was filmed on Friday, a day after he won his copyright infringement trial. Sheeran has stated that if he is found guilty of duplicating the song “Let’s Get It On,” he will stop making music.
A US jury found that he did not plagiarize Marvin Gaye’s song in composing his hit “Thinking Out Loud.” It can be recalled Ed testified as a witness Tuesday in a copyright trial in which he is accused of stealing Gaye’s song for his ballad “Thinking Out Loud.”
The lawsuit was originally launched in 2017 by the heirs of Gaye’s co-writer on Let’s Get It On, Ed Townsend. It claims that Sheeran and co-writer Amy Wadge plagiarized a rising four-chord sequence as well as its rhythm.
Sheeran said that he and his co-writer wrote “Thinking Out Loud” after believing for a time that the love inspired by his grandparents’ love story was still alive. Sheeran and co-writer Amy Wadge disputed plagiarism, arguing that the “melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic compositions” of Sheeran’s song are startlingly similar to Gaye’s song’s drum structure.
