Liza Soberano made clarifications about her name
Actress Liza Soberano said that people misunderstood her “call me Hope” statement as she is now being called by her real name.
Liza’s real name is Hope Elizabeth Soberano. An issue surfaced about her screen name when she mentioned in her This Is Me vlog, which is about her thoughts on her career for over a decade, that she didn’t even have the liberty to choose her name as a celebrity.
On the other hand, she said that she has nothing against the name Liza which was given to her by an ABS-CBN executive.
However, Liza Soberano shared that she is surprised that people are now calling her Hope, based on the article in Philstar Life.
“It’s actually very surprising to me because now, when I go out, people call me Hope. I’ve been to concerts and stuff and people would scream ‘Hope! Hope!’ I love my name and everything, but now I was like, ‘Oh my god, I was so misunderstood,'” the actress said.
She also said that people would ask her on Instagram why she is still using “Liza.” The actress stressed that this is not what she wants. “I still want to be known as Liza,” she added.
Aside from her statement in her vlog about her name, one of the possible reasons for the misunderstood statement about her name was the advertisement she did for a digital payments company.
Liza said in the advertisement, “Please call me…” and then, the video was cut and a title card appeared that flashed “HOPE.” The line “HOPE presents LIZA” was also stated in the commercial.
“I feel like that kind of doubled down on that narrative but that’s not what I meant,” she stressed. Liza explained that when she is being an actress, a celebrity, or a public figure, she is “Liza.” However, when she is working on personal stuff like directing and producing, she is Hope, as she is not the star.
“So, I was kind of trying to show people that there are two sides of me: there’s Liza and there’s Hope,” Liza Soberano said.
