NBI Official Reveals Teves Threatened Him Over E-Sabong Raid

NBI Reveals Teves Threatened to File Case Against Him If They Continue E-Sabong Raid

The official of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) revealed that Negros Oriental Congressman Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr threatened to sue him.

Renan Oliva, Chief Lawyer of the NBI Central Visayas, informed the Senate Committee on Public Order and Illegal Drugs of the threat. He said that Teves threatened him and his guys with criminal charges if they continued to raid e-sabong enterprises in Cebu.

Oliva spoke before the committee on the third day of its investigation into the gun attack that murdered Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and eight people last month. Despite being intimidated, Teves told Oliva that he is not involved in e-dating and that he has a buddy who is.

Teves Threatened NBI

According to the NBI official, Teves accused him and his colleagues of taking PHP7 million at the cockpit in Minglanilla, Cebu, following the operation they carried out. Based on the report, the same operation resulted in the arrest of two cockpit operators and 37 workers who were caught live streaming the cockfight.

“He (Teves) said he will sue my men for stealing PHP7 million at the cockpit. He continues to say he will spare me from the case if I make it negative of any incoming operation against e-sabong,” he said.

Oliva received a complaint for a $7 million embezzlement case in February 2023 after filing a lawsuit against the cockpit operators and personnel. Meanwhile, Pamplona mayor Janice Degamo told the committee that, in addition to her husband’s death and a number of other killings in the region, Teves is also involved in the illegal operation of e-sabong and STL.
