Baguio Graduate Atty Anthony Mark Emocling the First Blind Bar Exam Passer

ANTHONY MARK EMOCLING – A cum laude graduate from Baguio becomes the first blind passer of the 2022 Bar Examination.

A visually-impaired law graduate from Baguio passed the bar exam last year for the first time in Philippine history. Emocling was one of 3,992 people who passed the 2022 Bar Examinations, according to the Supreme Court on Friday, April 14.

First Blind Bar Passer

Emocling, the son of a taxi driver, earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Baguio (UB). As they publicized Anthony Mark’s feat on Facebook, the university was pleased of its graduate for making history.

“Congratulations to #UniversityOfBaguio alumnus, Anthony Mark Dulawan Emocling, for making history as the 1st visually-impaired examinee who successfully passed the 2022 Bar Examinations! Let’s give him our warmest applause!” their post stated.

Ilocos Sur Mayor Pablito Sandidad Sr., a former Emocling lecturer, congratulated the new lawyer on creating history. Sandidad, who had passed the 1967 Bar Exam with flying colors, complimented his student for braving the odds to pursue his dream of becoming a lawyer.

“Congratulations ANTHONY MARK DULAWAN EMOCLING!!! My blind student at the University of Baguio, School of Law (UBSOL) who against all the odds and despite being blind is now a Lawyer!” he said in his post.
