Mark Bautista Admits Being Scared when Friends Shunned Him After Coming Out
Singer-actor Mark Bautista shares his experience when some of his friends shunned him when come out to be a bisexual man.
The singer-actor revealed his experience following his sexual orientation disclosure on Tuesday’s episode of “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.” In 2018, Mark published his book “Beyond the Mark,” in which he stated that he is a bisexual man.
In his tell-all book, he will reflect on how he was able to break away from his own sexuality and personality. Mark Bautista confessed in this book that he is bisexual, which he said he did not regret revealing over five years later.
“Ang hirap mag-apologize sa isang bagay na totoo, like my truth. Wala akong regret,” said Mark when asked by Boy Abunda on his program.
He stated that the freedom he had had an impact on his singing career. He stated that the opportunities available to him have been limited or that the roles available to him have been stereotyped. Mark stated that he believes it is “unfair” to him as an actor.
“Na-realize ko Tito Boy, in terms sa music, I feel like nagkakaroon ako ng mga shows naman. It’s the same parang walang nagbago. But I think dahil uma-acting ako, nagkaroon na ng limitation ‘yung binibigay na offers, or mas nai-stereotype na ‘yung role na pwedeng ibigay sa akin,” he said.
” Gusto ko pa rin gawin na parang normal na mga role or like straight na role so after nung nag-book ako, marami rin nag-offer sa akin ng movies na gagawin but puro BL (boy’s love),” Mark’s dismay towards the former offers that were later rejected by his management.
Mark believes that aside from certain “changes” and fear, his career did not slow down after the discovery. He even admitted that anytime he posted something on his social media sites, he purposefully disabled the comments section to avoid harsh criticism.
“Ngayon ‘pag nagko-concert ako lagi nang may fear ako na may manunuod ba or something. For a time noon nag-release ako, tinurn-off ko ‘yung comment section kasi medyo harsh ‘yung iba,” Mark shared.
Mark, on the other hand, was taken aback by the support he received from people he had never expected to be his partners. However, there were a few friends who grew estranged after the disclosure, which Mark also experienced.
“May mga konting friends na naging distant. Meron naman sa showbiz na naging distant kasi feeling nila I was just doing it for publicity,” said the singer during the interview.
