Direk Joey Reyes Airs Dismay to GCash for Not Action After Account Got Hacked and Drained

Filipino film director Joey Reyes aired his dismay against the e-wallet GCash after his account got compromised and loses all his money.

Film director Jose Javier Reyes, also known as “Direk Joey Reyes,” resorted to social media to express his displeasure with Globe Telecommunications’ unsatisfactory response. This came after he demanded that the money stolen from his GCash account be returned to him.

“Upon checking on our end, and could see that the funds are no longer available in the reported GCash account, I’m sorry but we will not be able to return your money,” the GCash team’s response to Reyes read.

Reyes said on Instagram that his e-wallet had been hijacked and drained by an alleged hacker. According to Reyes’ screenshot, the online bank owned by the bilyonaryo Zobel de Ayala clan indicated there was nothing that could be done to recover the stolen monies.

“After discovering that my GCash account has been hacked and my entire wallet was drained … after asking for help to explain how my account was compromised and to retrieve my cash … this is what Gcash tells me. Need I say more?” Reyes’ caption on his post read.

He then cautioned netizens to use this type of online platform with caution. He also lamented that when you have a problem with your account, they will kindly tell you that they are not responsible for it.

“Need I say more? So be CAREFUL and CAUTIOUS in using this instrument because … they will politely tell you, ” Bahala ka sa buhay mo,” Reyes wrote in his post.

Reyes’ supporters were equally dismayed and upset by GCash’s handling of the incident. Others, however, recounted their own frustrating experiences with the e-wallet program.

  1. Well, don’t rely on GCash fully as online security is an evolving endeavor because hackers become more sophisticated. GCash is a double-edged sword as it can facilitate your transactions but subject yourself to the risk of losing your money. Just put in enough money you are willing to lose. For larger transactions, better use the conventional banking system.
