Boxing Judge Arrested for Punching a Game Official in Cebu
Police authorities arrested a boxing judge after allegedly punching a game official in Lapu Lapu City in Cebu province.
According to the complaint, the acting Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Cebu field office head was punched by a boxing judge following a boxing event that night at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City. The suspect was identified as Edgardo Olalo, 52, a businessman.
According to Police Major Ramil Dugan, chief of Police Station 3 of the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office (LCPO), Olalo was a judge at a boxing event at the Hoops Dome that night, and the victim was identified as Jimmy Donton, the officer in charge of the GAB Cebu Field Office.
According to the report, Donton merely paid Olalo to judge a boxing match inside the Hoops Dome, and the latter left first. However, Olalo allegedly waited in the lobby for Donton, and when Donton arrived, Olalo allegedly hit him three times in the face, causing Donton’s nose to bleed.
Donton then phoned the cops, who apprehended Olalo. Olalo may face a charge of physical injury, according to Police Major Dugan. For his part, GAB Chairman Richard Santos Clarin stated that violence had no place in the sector or their community.
Clarin, Donton’s boss, was referencing the reported punching incident at the Hoops Dome. He stated that the matter is being investigated. According to LCPO investigative officer Police Master Sergeant Jack Lord Pogoy, Olalo is still imprisoned at the LCPO headquarters’ custody center.
Pogoy stated that the suspect had a personal vendetta against the victim when asked what precipitated the event. Olalo was dissatisfied with the GAB’s deployment of judges in boxing contests, according to Police Master Sergeant Pogoy. He also stated that there could have been verbal exchanges that triggered the event.
