Coco Martin once said this to Brillante Mendoza
Award-winning indie film director Brillante Mendoza shared this story about Batang Quiapo actor Coco Martin.
Direk Brillante and Coco both started in showbiz by doing indie films. Their first project together was the movie Masahista. It was the filmmaker’s directorial debut and it was Coco’s first lead role.
Eventually, Coco journeyed to mainstream media while Direk Brillante continues doing indie films. In a recent interview, based on the article in PEP, the filmmaker expressed happiness for the success that the actor has achieved over the years.
Brillante Mendoza said that he is happy that Coco Martin was able to find success in the field that he wants. He added that back then, they did not imagine that both of them will make it big in the entertainment industry.
The director added that he is really surprised by the success that Coco was able to achieve. Then, Direk Brillante recalled a funny story about the Kapamilya actor. The filmmaker narrated that there was a point when Coco felt so desperate already.
“Sabi niya, ‘Kasi ang itsura ko mukha kasi akong Sto. Niño, e! Wala akong character.’ Sabi niyang ganun. ‘Ano kaya kung mag-ano ako,’ sabi niya, ‘maglagay ng scar?’” the director shared.
Direk Brillante said that Coco suggested that he would scratch the part of his face near his nose in order for him to have a scar. “Para magkaroon ng character. Parang kay Jake Cuenca, yung ganun,” he said, adding that the actor was thinking about that to add character to his face. However, Coco Martin’s face now is well-loved by many of his fans.
