Will this be the end of the iconic ABS-CBN headquarters?
A source revealed that ABS-CBN headquarters will be demolished as Rockwell Land reportedly was able to acquire the 3.4-hectare property.
The broadcasting center of the Kapamilya network is the home of the primetime news program TV Patrol. This is located at Sgt. Esguerra Avenue and Mother Ignacia Avenue in Diliman, Quezon City, where ABS-CBN has been operating since 1968.
The iconic building reportedly will bid goodbye three years after the network was not able to renew its franchise. Based on Bilyonaryo’s report, the management has already informed some officers and staff that the ABS-CBN headquarters will be demolished.
They will be relocated to the 15-storey adjacent Eugenio Lopez Jr Communications Center later this year and this includes Studio 7 where TV Patrol was born.
The source said that this is a practical move for ABS-CBN to do as the company needs to sell the land for its operating expenses. It was said that the building has practically been empty because the company had to lay off many employees to the franchise non-renewal.
One factor also is that remote work was increased even though the restrictions brought by the pandemic eased.
For the past three years, ABS-CBN focused on digital platforms and being a content provider for TV5 and A2Z channels. Just recently, it was announced that the Kapamilya network collaborated with GMA-7 and streaming platform Viu for a series.
The series Unbreak My Heart is featuring Kapamilya stars Jodi Sta Maria and Joshua Garcia, and Kapuso stars Richard Yap and Gabbi Garcia. They already started shooting for this project in Switzerland.
