UFC’s Jon Jones Wants to Fight Against WWE’s Brock Lesnar
Jon “Bones” Jones wants a “David and Goliath” fight against Brock Lesnar inside the octagon ring of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
Jones, who has spent the majority of his career at light heavyweight, fights for the vacant heavyweight title against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 on Saturday. Jones wins the title with a lightning-fast submission.
Jones’ talent was on full show, as he took just over two minutes to compel Gane to tap out and capture a title in his second weight class. Jones’ victory transformed the heavyweight class and might have a significant impact on the UFC’s entire revenue.
Meanwhile, Jones has stated his desire to battle former UFC heavyweight champion and current WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar. Jones informed Karisa Maxwell of the Sporting News on Friday about his previous attempt to get a fight with Lesnar and expressed hope that it could still happen.
“I think fighting Brock Lesnar would have been really cool. Brock isn’t the most technical guy, but he has a massive fanbase. He’s a lot bigger than me. And it would have been one of those really cool David and Goliath situations. It would have been really cool for cross-sport promoting, and I think we both would have done great things for our family and for our team. Financially, that would have been massive,” he said.
“… Never say never. Brock, if you’re out there,” he added in the interview.
Brock has been out of the UFC for a long time and has spent most of his time with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Jones called out Lesnar after his fight with Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in 2017.
“Brock Lesnar, if you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by a guy who weighs 40 pounds less than you, get in the Octagon.”
According to the Associated Press Greg Beacham, Lesnar retorted, “Be careful what you wish for, young man.” Jones was still at it two years later, saying he would “embarrass” Lesnar in an MMA bout because Lesnar was “far too sluggish.”
