Senator Revilla Condemns Death of Negros Oriental Gov Roel Degamo
Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr condemns the death of Negros Oriental gov Roel Degamo after being assassinated inside his house.
“Napapadalas na ah. Enough is enough!” Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. today said of the assassination of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo, just weeks after the attempted assassination of Lanao Del Sur Gov. Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong Jr. and Murder of Aparri, Cagayan Vice Mayor Rommel G. Alameda.
On Saturday, the senator expressed his thoughts on Governor Degamo’s assassination. According to Revilla, there have been far too many assassinations of high-ranking government figures.
“Kailangan ba nating paulit-ulit kondenahin ang ganito at ipaalala sa ating mga law enforcers na wala itong lugar sa ating lipunan?,” Revilla asked.
Revilla went on to say that authorities should keep in mind that criminals have no place in the country. Based on the article in Manila Bulletin, The senator also questioned the authorities’ response to the asud-asud ambush.
“What are they doing? They must put to stop lip-service and instead make sure they put an end to this kind of lawlessness. Parang pinaglalaruan na lang sila ng mga kriminal kasi,” an obviously exasperated Revilla lamented.
“Sa loob pa mismo ng kanyang tahanan! Ganito na ba tayo? Heads must roll!,” he demanded.
Revilla went on to say that killing should not be used to undermine the country’s democracy. The solon said that this violence is an attack not only on the people who were targeted but also on the people who elected them and on democracy itself.
“Hindi dapat hayaan ang ganitong mga atake sa demokrasya,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Revilla expressed his sympathies to Governor Degamo’s family and the people of Negros Oriental. The senator promised to work on the probe into Degamo’s death.
