First Skatepark in Samar Island for Margielyn Didal Opened in Borongan
The first skatepark in Samar Island for olympian skateboarder Margielyn Didal opened this February 25, 2023, in Borongan City.
On Saturday, February 25, Olympian Margielyn Didal will dedicate the freshly built Margielyn Didal Skate Park at Baybay Beach in Surf City, Borongan City. On Saturday, Didal and the National Skateboarding Team will offer a free clinic for all skateboarders in Eastern Samar.
Margielyn Didal Skate Park was Samar Island’s first skate park, and she helped develop it. On December 6, 2021, Didal was recognized as an adopted citizen of Borongan City by Sangguniang Panlungsod Resolution No. 54, titled “Declaring Margielyn Didal as an Adopted Citizen of the City of Borongan.”
According to the report, Didal, a well-known Filipino athlete, competed in an international skateboarding competition and won gold medals and awards. The Cebuana skateboarder caught the hearts of Filipinos and became an inspiration to young sportsmen, it continued.
She exhibits the essence of a Filipino athlete and is a role model to all young folks in upholding the qualities of a true Filipino citizen. Nevertheless, the sister of then-mayor Tomas Osmea made a P5 million donation to help fund the skatepark’s construction in 2018. The project has been delayed due to location and permit issues.
Days after skateboarder Margielyn Didal’s performance at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, many in her hometown of Cebu are wondering: Where is the skatepark we were promised? Before breaking into the big leagues, Didal was just like any other skateboarder in Cebu City, looking for a location to practice or simply enjoy street skating, and fleeing when the authorities caught them doing so.
